Hendersonville voters can start casting ballots Wednesday, Oct. 14, for the Nov. 3 general election. Six alderman races, a governor's contest and a U.S. Senate race are on the ballot.

Early voting runs through Thursday, Oct. 29, according to the Sumner County Election Commission. The Hendersonville site is Community Church of Hendersonville, 381 West Main St.

Weekday hours are 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. The site is also open 9 a.m. to noon on two Saturdays: Oct. 17 and Oct. 24.

A second full-time early voting location operates at Hartsville Pike Church of Christ, 744 Hartsville Pike, in Gallatin, on the same schedule.

What's on the ballot

Hendersonville residents will choose an alderman in each of the city's six wards, all four-year terms. Contested races, according to the sample ballot, include Ward 1 (Afton Adams-Skidmore vs. Mark Burgdorf), Ward 2 (Keith Dennen vs. David Ramos), Ward 4 (Chris Gonzales vs. Vanessa Silkwood) and Ward 6 (Todd Kerr vs. Rob Reyburn). Bob Garza is unopposed in Ward 3, and Garrett Kidd is unopposed in Ward 5.

Statewide, the ballot includes the governor's race between Republican Marsha Blackburn and Democrat Jerri Green, plus the U.S. Senate race between Republican Bill Hagerty and Democrat Marquita Bradshaw. Three Tennessee constitutional amendments also appear.

Sumner County's congressional boundaries, redrawn as of May 7, split the county between the 6th and 7th districts. A voter's U.S. House race depends on their address.

What to bring

Tennessee law requires a valid photo ID to vote early or on Election Day, according to Sumner County Source and election commission records. Acceptable forms include a Tennessee driver's license, a state or federal government-issued photo ID, a U.S. passport, a military photo ID or a Tennessee handgun carry permit with photo. Expired IDs from these categories are still accepted. College student IDs are not.

Voters who arrive without proper ID may cast a provisional ballot. They then have two business days after Election Day to visit the Sumner County Election Commission office in Gallatin, present a valid photo ID and sign an affidavit, or the ballot will be rejected.

Other deadlines

The voter registration deadline passed Oct. 5. Voters who need an absentee ballot by mail must request one by Saturday, Oct. 24. Absentee ballots must arrive at the election commission by the close of polls on Election Day and cannot be hand-delivered.

Voters with disabilities or those 60 and older assigned to an inaccessible polling place may vote at the election commission office or request an absentee ballot. Affidavits for that accommodation are also due by Oct. 24.
