The Hendersonville Rotary Club is collecting lightly worn shoes through Wednesday, Nov. 11, as part of a district-wide drive benefiting Soles4Souls.
The collection began Wednesday, Oct. 14, and includes clubs across Rotary District 6760, according to the club's announcement on Instagram. Last spring, the district collected nearly 3,000 pairs of shoes. This fall, the Hendersonville club wants to help beat that number.
The drive also carries a competitive edge. District Governor Jeff Brasher will award $250 to the club that collects the most shoes, the club said.
Rotarian Becky Caldwell is coordinating the local effort.
What to donate
The club accepts clean, lightly worn shoes with no holes. Each pair should be placed in an individual plastic bag for packing and transportation.
The club is encouraging residents to spread the word to friends, family, local businesses, schools and churches so the Hendersonville collection can contribute as many pairs as possible to the district total.
Nashville-based Soles4Souls distributes donated shoes and clothing to people in need and supplies entrepreneurs in low-income countries with goods to resell, according to the organization's website.
The Hendersonville Rotary Club meets Wednesdays at 7:30 a.m. at St. Timothy Lutheran Church. Residents can contact Caldwell through the club for details on drop-off arrangements.
