Beech leads Hendersonville-area football programs into Week 6 with the county's best record at 4-1. Hendersonville sits at 3-2, and Station Camp enters the week at 2-3.

Five weeks and 40 games mark the midpoint of the Sumner County football season, according to Main Street Preps. For the three programs closest to home, the picture is mixed heading into Friday, Sept. 25.

Beech (4-1): ground game grinding out wins

The Buccaneers own the area's strongest start after beating Upperman 42-19 on Friday, Sept. 18. Devin Crutcher rushed for 75 yards on six carries, and Jeramy Laster broke a 68-yard touchdown run on a single carry, according to the Tennessean.

Quarterback Sawyer Phillips added 65 yards and a touchdown through the air on 5-of-8 passing. Josiah Bell hauled in a 31-yard scoring catch.

Blaine Kellar, Northcentral Regional Sports Editor for Main Street Preps, called Beech's identity no surprise in his midseason column published Tuesday, Sept. 22: "Not shocking is Beech running the ball and winning."

Beech hosts Hunters Lane on Friday.

Hendersonville (3-2, 1-0 Region 6-5A): region play off to a fast start

The Commandos opened Region 6-5A play with a 49-20 win over Hunters Lane on Friday, Sept. 18, as we reported Tuesday.

Quarterback Christopher Jordan completed 4-of-6 passes for 111 yards and three touchdowns. Ayden Meadows caught one pass for 50 yards and a score. Weston Hall added a 40-yard touchdown reception.

Hendersonville hosts Portland on Friday.

Station Camp (2-3): Bison looking for a spark

Station Camp fell 49-14 at Lebanon on Saturday, Sept. 19, dropping to 2-3 on the season. Lebanon coach Chuck Gentry said after the game that Station Camp was without two tailbacks, limiting the Bison's offensive options, the Lebanon Democrat reported.

Left-handed quarterback Colton Overbey completed 10-of-18 passes for 113 yards with a 30-yard touchdown pass to Eric Ginther and one interception. He also led the Bison in rushing with 31 yards, including a 14-yard scoring run that tied the game 7-7 in the first quarter before Lebanon pulled away.

Gentry called Overbey "a dynamic athlete, very good football player" after Saturday's game.

The Bison travel to unbeaten Gallatin (5-0) on Friday.
