More than 70 Sumner County cross country runners qualified for the TSSAA state championships after sectional meets held Tuesday, Oct. 27.
Four area teams and two individuals won their sectional races, according to Main Street Media of Tennessee, with many additional runners from the county making the cut. Reporter Blaine Kellar first reported the full qualifying picture.
The TSSAA Division I Class AAA Section 6 meet drew 259 athletes to The Hermitage in Hermitage, according to MileSplit Tennessee. Station Camp High School's Ryne Sexton hosted the event. The race moved from its usual home at Sanders Ferry Park because of a National Pro Bass Fishing Tournament at that site.
The boys' side came down to the wire. Tennessee MileSplit noted that just six points separated the last qualifying team from the first team left out.
A separate Class AA Section 4 meet also took place at The Hermitage on Oct. 27, with 224 athletes entered, according to a MileSplit Tennessee preview.
The state championships are scheduled for Friday, Nov. 6, at Shelby Farms Park in Memphis, according to the Daily Post-Athenian. Class AA boys are set to race at 12:30 p.m. CST, with the Class AA girls following at 1:20 p.m.
Main Street Media's full report identifies which Sumner County teams and individuals earned their trips to Memphis.
