Hendersonville hosts Beech on Thursday, Oct. 29, in the Battle of Drakes Creek, with the Class 5A Region 6 championship on the line.
The Buccaneers (8-1, 3-0 in region play) can clinch the title outright with a win at 7 p.m. Beech has outscored opponents 357-148 this season, according to MaxPreps schedule data. The Bucs' lone loss came in the opener, a 15-13 defeat to Green Hill on Aug. 21. They have won eight straight since.
Beech rolled Portland 44-7 on Friday, Oct. 23, the latest in a string of lopsided results that included a 52-35 win over Station Camp on Oct. 2 and a 45-0 shutout of Hunters Lane on Sept. 25.
Hendersonville (6-3) enters the rivalry game having won five of its last six. The Commandos beat Shelbyville Central 32-29 on Oct. 23, a game MaxPreps described as a bounce-back after a road loss. That road loss was a 45-42 defeat to Station Camp on Oct. 16, according to Sumner County Source.
The Oct. 16 result looms over Thursday's playoff picture. Blaine Kellar, who covers Sumner County football for Main Street Media of Tennessee, wrote in his Week 10 predictions column that Colton Overbey and Cayden Moore scored a last-minute touchdown to beat the Commandos.
That win left Station Camp at 2-1 in region play and second in the standings behind Beech, according to MaxPreps. The Bison (4-5) travel to Portland (2-7) on Thursday at 7 p.m. in their own regular-season finale. A win would secure second place in Region 6.
Station Camp routed Hunters Lane 49-6 on Oct. 23, according to Sumner County Source, and carries a two-game winning streak into Portland.
The Tennessean reported that the TSSAA football playoffs begin two weeks after the regular-season finale, which wraps up Oct. 29 and 30 across Tennessee.
Kellar noted in his Week 11 column that scenarios ranging from five-way ties to outright region championships remain in play across Sumner County. The full details of those tiebreaker scenarios were not available.
