Scotty Bush, who won the Sumner County School Board District 1 seat in August, used $200 of his remaining campaign funds to donate to a Hendersonville alderman candidate.

Bush's third-quarter campaign finance report, filed with the Sumner County Election Commission, covers July 28 through Sept. 30 and shows just one transaction. His campaign paid $200 on Sept. 2 to Garrett Kidd of Hendersonville, listed as a "Campaign Donation." Kidd is a candidate for Hendersonville Alderman Ward 5 on the Tuesday, Nov. 3 municipal ballot, according to election commission minutes from a Sept. 8 special meeting.

Bush took in no new donations during the quarter. His campaign carried a $3,207.92 balance into the period and closed at $3,007.92 with no outstanding loans or obligations. Campaign treasurer Cory B. Turner signed the report Thursday, Oct. 8.

That $3,207.92 opening balance traces to a small pre-general election filing covering July 1 through July 27. Bush raised $100 from one donor, Lavern Hutsell of Hendersonville, during that window and spent nothing, bumping his balance up from the $3,107.92 he carried out of the second quarter.

The District 1 seat covers Hendersonville-area schools including Hendersonville High School, Beech High School and Merrol Hyde Magnet School. Bush defeated Democrat Jill Fernelius in the Aug. 6 general election with 2,006 votes to Fernelius's 1,074, capturing 64.48% of the 3,111 ballots cast. The Sumner County Election Commission certified those results 5-0 on Aug. 18.

Bush had earlier won a Republican primary on May 5, beating Jill Rathert with 1,091 votes to Rathert's 921. Over the full 2026 cycle, his campaign raised $14,374 across four reporting periods and spent $10,656.01.

The Tuesday, Nov. 3 ballot includes races for Hendersonville aldermen, Gallatin mayor and aldermen, Goodlettsville commissioner and a Goodlettsville sales tax referendum. No school board seats are on that ballot. No comparable third-quarter filing from Fernelius was available in election commission records.

Kidd's Ward 5 alderman race is among the Hendersonville contests voters will decide Tuesday, Nov. 3.
