Rancho Cantina on West Main Street scored an 89 on its Oct. 13 health inspection, the lowest mark among Hendersonville restaurants in the Oct. 12–26 inspection period.
State inspectors cited six violations at the restaurant, located at 624 W. Main St., and embargoed 5 pounds of vacuum-sealed fish, Sumner County Source reported. None of the violations were repeats from prior inspections. A follow-up inspection is required.
The fish was found thawing unopened in the walk-in cooler, according to the Tennessee Department of Health inspection report. The package stated the fish should be removed from its packaging before thawing.
The five other violations included a missing handwashing sign at the kitchen hand sink, employee drinks stored on a prep table, and towels left on tables and cutting boards instead of being stored in sanitizer solution. Inspectors also found cardboard being used as a shelf liner and a floor mat inside the walk-in cooler, plus water pooling on the floor from a leaking air conditioning unit.
As we reported Oct. 26, four Hendersonville restaurants scored 98 or above during the same inspection period.
Residents who observe a food safety concern at any Tennessee restaurant can call the state's Restaurant Complaint/Foodborne Illness Hotline at 800-293-8228.
State inspectors, who visit food establishments at least twice a year, will need to return for the required follow-up inspection. No date for that visit has been announced.
