All three Hendersonville-area football programs take the field Friday, Oct. 23, with the Beech Buccaneers carrying a state ranking and the Commandos looking to bounce back from a three-point loss.
Beech (7-1) travels to Portland after beating Gallatin 46-17 on Oct. 16. The Buccaneers sit at No. 25 in the state, according to the Massey Ratings published by On3 on Oct. 18. Beech shut out Hunters Lane 45-0 in Week 6, according to The Tennessean's scoreboard.
Junior wide receiver Jeramy Laster Jr. has drawn statewide attention for the Buccaneers. The Tennessean profiled Laster on Oct. 16, noting his connection to cousin Junior Sherrill, a Vanderbilt wide receiver who also played at Beech.
Hendersonville (5-3) hosts Shelbyville Central (1-7) at 7 p.m. in a non-district game. The Commandos fell 45-42 to Station Camp on Oct. 16, according to the Commercial Appeal's Week 9 scoreboard. That loss stung, but Hendersonville handled Portland 56-8 in Week 6.
Shelbyville arrives on a seven-game losing streak. The Eagles lost to Ravenwood 42-7 in Week 9 and are 0-5 in district play, according to MaxPreps. They have scored 135 points this season while allowing 277.
