Station Camp fell to Liberty Creek 2-0 on Thursday, Oct. 15, in the District 9-AA girls soccer championship.
The loss ended the Bison's season-long title hopes and gave the Wolves their fourth district championship in four years, as first reported by Main Street Media of Tennessee. It is Liberty Creek's second consecutive District 9-AA crown.
Taylor Hahn put the Wolves (12-4-2) ahead in the 16th minute off an assist from Avery Taylor. With 25 minutes remaining, Hahn set up Addy McKinney to make it 2-0.
The Bison (8-11) had their chances. Goalkeeper Ella Barrier stopped a Liberty Creek penalty kick, and the Wolves picked up a red card in the final 15 minutes. Neither break turned into a Station Camp goal.
The defeat was Station Camp's third straight against Liberty Creek, a streak dating to last year's Class AA semifinal.
After the Bison's 4-0 regular-season loss to the Wolves on Sept. 24, Station Camp coach Jeremy Cooke said his team struggled to finish. "We just couldn't capitalize on chances," Cooke said after that game.
District 9-AA awards
Liberty Creek swept three of the four individual honors. Forward Addie Medina, a Trevecca Nazarene University commitment, was named District 9-AA Most Valuable Player. Defender Brooklynne Bourgault earned Defensive Player of the Year, and coach Andrew Fish took Coach of the Year.
Station Camp's Emma Wood won Offensive Player of the Year.
After the Sept. 24 win, Fish said he wanted his players to enjoy the big moments. "I want the girls to have fun, because that's a big-time goal in a big-time game against a big-time opponent," Fish said at the time.
What's next
Liberty Creek enters Class AAA girls soccer next season as a two-time District 6-A and two-time District 9-AA champion. The postseason hardware hunt continues first.
Both teams advance to the region tournament. Liberty Creek opens its state championship defense against MLK Magnet on Tuesday, Oct. 20. Station Camp travels to Valor College Prep.
