Four members of the McDaniel family stood on opposite sidelines Thursday, Oct. 1, when Liberty Creek volleyball beat Beech 3-1 at Liberty Creek High School in Gallatin.

First-year Liberty Creek head coach Chloee Hernandez faced her twin sisters Ellee McDaniel, Beech's first-year head coach, and Rylee, who assists and leads Beech's junior-varsity program. Youngest sister Charlee McDaniel, a sophomore libero, started for the Buccaneers.

Charlee's defensive play kept Beech competitive through the first two sets, giving the Buccaneers a chance at a 2-0 lead. They took the opener 26-24. Liberty Creek answered, taking the next three sets 27-25, 25-13 and 25-17.

"The last time we were in a high school gym together, we were on the same team playing together at Beech," Hernandez told Main Street Media of Tennessee. "I just think that's pretty cool how, like, life is full circle now and we get to compete against each other."

The McDaniel family has seven siblings, all with names ending in "ee": Hailee, Saidee, Chloee, Ellee, Rylee, Scottee and Charlee. Their mother, Chrissy McDaniel, started the family's volleyball roots about 15 years ago coaching in Florida. After the family relocated to Tennessee, Chrissy and her daughters founded Hendersonville's C2 Attack Volleyball Club.

Five of the siblings played at Aaron Academy under Chrissy's coaching, and five went on to play college volleyball at programs including Maryville, Chattanooga State, Missouri State, Austin Peay, Trevecca and North Greenville. Scottee currently plays men's volleyball at North Greenville.

Hernandez had coached only at the college level before she accepted Liberty Creek's vacancy in February. She considered hiring Ellee and Rylee as assistants, Main Street Media reported. The twins instead chose to build their own staff at Beech, their alma mater, after previously assisting former head coach Lauran Hudgins.

Ellee and Rylee both say Charlee will be the next McDaniel sibling to play college volleyball.

Charlee, 10 years younger than Hernandez, made her own intentions clear after the match: she walked into the gym ready to beat her bigger sister.
