Tennessee Secretary of State Tre Hargett will speak at a public meeting in Hendersonville on Oct. 10 about the Nov. 3 general election.
The League of Women Voters of Hendersonville/Sumner County is hosting the event at the Carolyn Smith Innovation Center (formerly Smith Travel Research), 735 E. Main St., starting at 11:30 a.m. The meeting is open to the public, according to a calendar listing from Main Street Media.
Hargett, a Hendersonville resident, has served as Tennessee's 37th secretary of state since 2009, according to the Secretary of State's office. The Tennessee General Assembly has re-elected him four times, most recently in 2025. He oversees the Department of State and its more than 300 employees.
Lori Atchley, administrator of the Sumner County Election Commission, will also speak. Atchley plans to address election issues specific to Sumner County.
The Nov. 3 ballot includes races for governor, U.S. Senate, U.S. House, Tennessee Senate and Tennessee House seats, according to WSMV. Some cities and counties will also have local races. Three proposed constitutional amendments will appear on the ballot. In Sumner County, state House Districts 44 and 45 are contested.
Hargett has emphasized voter participation in past public appearances. "We launched this award because we believe our state and our nation are stronger when every eligible Tennessean is registered to vote and casts a ballot on Election Day …" Hargett said that in November 2024 while recognizing Wilson County schools for voter registration efforts.
The registration deadline for the Nov. 3 election is Monday, Oct. 5, five days before the League of Women Voters meeting. Early voting runs Oct. 14 through Oct. 29. Absentee ballot requests are due by Oct. 24.
Tennessee voters must bring a valid photo ID to the polls. The state's GoVoteTN.gov website and free mobile app allow residents to register, check their registration, find polling locations and track absentee ballots.
